Rachel Thomson

Rachel Thomson MSW, LICSWA

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate

Inspired by her mother’s suggestion that she consider a career as a counselor, Rachel took a direct care position in 2006 at a residential treatment center in order to test the professional waters while completing her BA in Humanities at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. Working there inspired her to take the steps towards obtaining a Masters of Social Work in Missoula at the University of Montana. In her graduate internships, Rachel helped families to connect and communicate more effectively and supported young adults with developmental disabilities engage in meaningful work and build their self-confidence.

Following her graduation in 2012, she moved to Phoenix, AZ where she continued work with teens and their families in a wilderness residential setting, assisted individuals struggling to overcome addiction at a crisis detox facility, and supported women of all ages at a treatment center for overcoming eating disorders.

Rachel enjoys working with children, teens, young adults and adults. She has helped many individuals and families come to understand, challenge and change their internalized patterns of shame, doubt, fear, insecurity, conflict, depression, anxiety and disconnection. She sees her role as helping her clients obtain the “emotional education” that is largely neglected in our formal educational experiences. Utilizing principles and treatment methods from attachment theory, CBT, EFT and others, she compassionately supports her clients tap into their innate capacity to learn, grow and heal.

When Rachel is not helping people at work, she enjoys remodeling her turn of the century home with her husband, hiking in National Parks, paddle boarding, photography, travel and practicing yoga.
