Julia Baker
Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
Julia earned her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from New Mexico Highlands University and is currently a licensed mental health counselor associate (LMHCA) in the state of Washington. Originally from Washington, Julia lived in New Mexico for 16 years before moving home to Spokane in 2020. She previously received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University and has served families and students as a teacher, community volunteer, and as a member of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and the Board of Education in Los Alamos, NM. Through her work in education, she realized her true passion was helping others build confidence and resiliency, develop healthy relationships, and find joy in their personal growth.
Julia works from a person-centered perspective while drawing from cognitive-behavioral therapy, as well as motivational interviewing and mindfulness techniques. Julia’s counseling philosophy is rooted in the belief that the client is the expert in their own life and that each person has an innate ability to grow and change. Using empathic listening and reflection, Julia strives to foster a safe environment for the client to share their story and explore their perceptions and feelings.
Outside of work Julia enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cooking, and running (slowly). She and her husband are parents to five children who are awesome teammates and her greatest teachers.
